PS Wagunda and PS Aurelia attends the inaugural Pan-African PSSF Conference.

The Principal Secretary in the State Department for Public Investments and Assets Management Mr. Cyrell Wagunda today accompanied his counterpart in the State Department for Parliamentary Affairs CPA Aurelia Rono during the ongoing inaugural Pan-African PSSF Conference in Diani, Kwale County.


The two-day Conference convened by the Public Service Superannuation Fund (PSSF) under the theme; 'Beyond Capital Preservation: The Future of Pensions', is bringing together various stakeholders from across the pensions and financial services ecosystem from various countries to foster dialogue, learning and collaboration towards a strengthened public sector.


In her speech, PS Rono who represented the Prime Cabinet Secretary & Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Dr. Hon Musalia W Mudavadi said pension funds and sovereign funds are uniquely positioned to finance Africa’s long term infrastructure assets. 


"These resources will underwrite macroeconomic stability, strengthen capital markets, promote inclusive development and reduce dependence on volatile external financing. This is the base that Africa should use to stimulate sustainable growth and create jobs," said the PSC in a speech read by PS Rono. 


On his part, PS Wagunda thanked the pension scheme trustees whose role, he said, extends far beyond fiduciary responsibility.
"As custodians of pensions, you are safeguarding the livelihoods and dignity of thousands of retirees and their dependents. Such a responsibility deserves the highest form of support and acknowledgement and therefore, we view pensions not just as instruments for post-retirement income, but a powerful engines for sustainable development," he said.
Uganda's Cabinet Minister for Public Service Hon. Wilson Muruli Uganda's, State Minister for Public Service Hon. Mary Mugasa, PSSF Chairperson Hon. Amb. Hussein Dado, Chief Executive Officer (CEO),    Dr. Jonah Aiyabei, Secretary of Pensions Department  at the National Treasury Mr. Michael Kagika and other senior delegates were present.
